“I got an interview in late March and was offered the job in April. I’m over the moon!”

I was made redundant earlier this year and was worried I wouldn’t be able to get another job because of my age. I heard from a friend that there’s a weekly CV workshop here in the City Library through the Skills Hub, so I booked on. The adviser who ran the session was really helpful, and she helped me to understand how my skills could be transferable for other jobs. After the workshop, she gave me advice about my CV and application forms. I got an interview in late March and was offered the job in April. I’m over the moon!

I had my own business in my home country but when I moved here I didn’t know what my options were. I noticed the Skills Hub when I was in the library once and went to find out more about it – they told me they have different organisations who help people with careers advice and guidance and help them to get a job. The adviser who I worked with told me about my options, and we came up with a plan of action. Thanks to her advice, I’m now doing a course at college and have a part-time job. In the future I want to go to university.

[I noticed the Skills Hub when I was in the library once and went to find out more about it – they told me they have different organisations who help people with careers advice and guidance and help them to get a job.] They made me an appointment. The adviser who supported me talked to me about what I wanted to do, and what type of things I enjoyed and was good at. She told me about a placement she knew that had come up near where I live… I applied, and did that for a few weeks, and then my adviser helped me to apply for the paid position. When the organisation was going to close, I took it over and now work running my own business. Running my own business has changed my life – I’m really grateful for the help I got.
