Skills Hub - Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice explains our data processing practices and your options with reference to the way your personal data is used. We may update this Privacy Notice at any time.

Who are we?

The Skills Hub is a partnership between Newcastle Futures, Generation North East, Connexions, National Careers Service, Newcastle City Council’s Supported Employment Project, JET, YHN, Moving on Tyne and Wear, UXL, PNE, Reviving the Heart of the West End and Millin Charity.

What information do we collect about you and how do we use it?

When you register at the Skills Hub you complete a registration form and sign a consent. We gather your personal details and also sensitive person information e.g. your ethnic origin. The Skills Hub needs your consent to share relevant personal information about you; this is so we can make referrals to our Partners for the purposes of help/services that may be available to you. The Partners are listed above.

Due to Partner funding arrangements, we need to collect this data to satisfy the criteria of accessing the funds, if we do not hold this consent from our customers, we may not be able to offer all of the services available. All Partners may require you to complete a separate registration form and sign to provide consent.

The information will be stored securely by the Skills Hub (Newcastle City Council) and will only be used for the specific purposes as detailed below.  Personal details will be held on a secure central Hanlon database run by and overseen by Newcastle City Council and with your permission, can be shared with other Hanlon users (Only organisations registered as Hanlon users) 

This information will only be used or shared for the following purposes:

  • To help our Partners provide you with relevant advice and support in relation to getting back to work.  
  • To help our Partners to encourage you to access the support and advice they provide, or that is available to you.
  • To help the Skills Hub adviser to support you by discussing your needs, and to identify
  • For evaluation and research purposes,
  • To measure whether this initiative is successful or not

You may also register your interest when you attend one of our events and sign to say you would like to receive information on future events.

What is the consent I’m asked to sign if I want support from the Skills Hub?

As part of the Skills Hub registration form you are asked to read and sign the following:

I ………………………………………………………… (enter full name) authorise the Skills Hub and Partners to use the personal details I have provided for the reasons outlined above only. I also understand that if any information is given to any other organisation for research and monitoring purposes that I will not be identified. I understand that I can withdraw my consent to the sharing of information at any time.

I understand this service is voluntary and give my consent for my personal details to be held on a secure database and used by the Skills Hub to confirm my identity and be released to employers, funders, Partners and referral organisations where it is necessary in the interests of increasing my employment prospects. My personal information may be used for the purpose of information management and external audit requirements by the organisation collecting the data or any organisation with whom the data has been shared. My personal details will be inputted into the Hanlon database by Newcastle City Council and Newcastle

Futures employees for this purpose. My details will be destroyed no later than 6 years from not using the service. Where a Partner is required to retain my details longer due to funding requirements a separate consent will be signed.

I may request a copy of this consent form and I understand that I can withdraw this consent at any time by contacting the Skills Hub on 0191 277 4125 or by emailing skillshub@newcastle.gov.uk.

How long do we retain your data?

We will retain your details for 6 years from your first registration and then it will be destroyed. If you want to withdraw consent during this time then contact the Skills Hub. If you receive support from a specific Skills Hub partner who needs to retain your information for longer you will have signed a separate consent detailing how long your data will be retained.

If you have completed an event registration form and asked that we contact you about other relevant events then we will continue to do so until you no longer wish to receive communication from us. Please notify us by email to skillshub@newcastle.gov.uk

What are your rights in relation to your personal data held by us?

You have the right to:

– access any personal data that we hold about you,

– rectify your personal data (correct or complete your personal data, if it is inaccurate or incomplete),

– erase your personal data (delete your personal data),

– restrict the use of your personal data (we will then store your data but not use it).

You also have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.  You can request any of the above by phoning us on 0191 277 4125; speaking to us in person; e-mailing us at skillshub@newcastle.gov.uk or writing to us at: The Skills Hub, Newcastle City Library, Charles Avison Building Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8AX. We will respond within a month of your request.
